Advantages of Ball Screw Nuts

01/

Improve Transmission Accuracy
Double nut ball screws achieve movement through two nuts configured up and down, which can effectively reduce the gap during transmission. Since the two nuts can produce uniform force distribution, the gap and reverse clearance caused by the single nut can be eliminated, thereby improving the transmission accuracy.

02/

Reduce Rolling Friction and Improve Efficiency
During the operation of traditional screws, due to the existence of friction, it is easy to cause energy loss. The design of the double nut ball screw allows the steel ball to roll between the nut and the screw, which greatly reduces the friction.

03/

Improve Load Capacity
The design of the double-nut ball screw enables it to carry a large load. The parallel design of the two nuts enables it to disperse the load and reduce the pressure per unit area, which can improve its load-bearing capacity.

04/

Extend Service Life
Since the double nut ball screw has less friction during operation, it also has relatively less wear. By using high-quality materials and a good lubrication system, the service life of this screw can be significantly extended compared to traditional screws.

05/

Low Noise and Low Vibration
The use characteristics of the double nut ball screw make it relatively quiet and vibrate during operation. Because the movement of the ball is lower than the noise and vibration generated by sliding friction, especially at high speeds, the noise is even smaller.

06/

Better Thermal Stability
During operation, heat generated by friction is inevitable. Because the double nut ball screw has less friction and generates relatively less heat, it can maintain good thermal stability. This allows it to maintain good working performance during long-term high-load operation.

Types of Ball Screw Nuts

Single Nut

The single nut is the most basic type of ball screw nut. It's simple in design and easy to install. It consists of a single nut body with a series of ball grooves inside. The balls roll between the screw shaft and the nut, converting rotational motion into linear motion.

Double Nut

If you need more precision, double nuts are the way to go. A double nut consists of two nuts placed close together on the screw shaft. There are a few different ways to configure double nuts.

Flanged Nut

Flanged nuts have a flange, or a flat, protruding rim, on one end. This flange provides additional support and stability. It can be used to mount the nut to a machine component, such as a slide or a carriage.

Miniature Nut

As the name suggests, miniature nuts are small in size. They're designed for applications where space is limited. Miniature ball screw nuts are commonly used in medical devices, such as dental equipment and small - scale laboratory instruments.

High - Speed Nut

High - speed nuts are optimized for applications that require fast linear motion. They're designed to reduce friction and heat generation, which are common problems at high speeds.

Self - Aligning Nut

Self - aligning nuts are designed to compensate for any misalignment between the screw shaft and the nut. They can automatically adjust their position to ensure that the balls roll smoothly between the screw and the nut.

Each Ball Screw Nuts style mounts in a different way

SFS Nut

Threaded Ball nut mounting

Threaded ball nuts have a thread on one end. A plate or mounting block can be tapped to accept this thread. Once the nut is threaded into the mounting the threads can be pinned or secured to keep the nut in that position. Orientation of the nut is more critical on ball nuts with external returns where clearance with other structures on the machine may be an issue.

SFU Nut

Flanged ball nut mounting

Flanged ball nuts are mounted to a plate or block using bolts through the provided holes. The mount must be bored to let the screw pass. Often the mount is bored to allow the ball nut housing to mount inside it to save space. Some ball nuts are even made with a precision machined diameter just behind the flange to aid in aligning the nut inside the mount.

SFY Nut

Cylindrical ball nut mounting

Cylindrical ball nuts are mounted into housings specially designed and bored to hold the nut. A keyway is provided in the nut to mate with the housing to keep the nut from rotating in the housing. A method of retaining the nut into the bore must be designed into the housing.

maintain of Ball Screw Nuts

Reasonable lubrication

Choose appropriate lubricant: Use bearing oil or grease containing lubricant to ensure that the lubricant can be filled on the steel ball and the ball groove, and it is better to directly oil the nut. The selection of lubricant should take into account the working conditions of the ball screw and nut, such as temperature, speed, load, etc.

Regular lubrication: Add an appropriate amount of lubricant to the ball screw and nut regularly to maintain its good lubrication state. Check the quality and quantity of lubricants regularly, and replace or replenish them in time.

Correct installation and adjustment

Precise installation: Ensure the installation accuracy of ball screws and nuts to avoid collisions and scratches during installation. Use special installation tools and methods to ensure that the clearance between the outer diameter of the screw shaft end and the nut is moderate.

Preload adjustment: According to the application scenario and load conditions, reasonably adjust the preload force of the ball screw. The adjustment of the preload force should ensure that there is no gap between the screw and the nut, while avoiding abnormal wear caused by overtightening.

Strengthen maintenance

Regular cleaning: Regularly clean the dirt and impurities on the surface of the ball screw and nut to keep them clean. Use special cleaning agents and tools to avoid damage to the ball screw and nut.

Inspection and maintenance: Regularly check the wear of the ball screw and nut to find and deal with potential problems in time. Replace severely worn parts to ensure stable operation of the system.

Avoid overload use

Strictly control the load: The design of the ball screw and nut has its rated load limit and should be used strictly in accordance with regulations. Avoid long-term overload operation to avoid excessive pressure on the ball screw and nut and accelerate its wear process.

Optimize working conditions: Try to avoid the ball screw and nut working under harsh conditions such as high temperature, high humidity, and corrosive environment. Optimize the working conditions of the ball screw and nut by improving the design or adding protective measures.

FAQ

Q: For which type of load are ball nuts best suited?

A: A ball screw nut is designed in a way to achieve a low friction, smooth and precise linear motion. Therefore, ball screws are used in industrial applications with higher positional accuracy and greater axial loads for robotics, semiconductors, CNC machinery and other contract manufacturing processes.

Q: What is the difference between a ball nut and a ball screw?

A: A ball screw can be ordered preloaded, which means there is minimal backlash. Ball Diameter– the diameter of the ball bearings that ride between the ball nut and the ball screw. Ball Nut– a nut that contains ball bearings which contact a helical raceway on a screw.

Q: What are ball nuts for?

A: These little wonders will work in small parallel-sided cracks where the only other option is pounding a piton. Ball Nuts also work in pin scars and small flares where even modern micro cams simply won't fit. Since they weigh so little, many advanced trad climbers keep a #2 and #3 on their rack at all times.

Q: How to lock a nut into place?

A: You can purchase thread locking liquids. Simply put a drop of liquid onto the bolt's threads and secure the nut. When the thread locker is dry, the nut will be secure. NOTE: thread locking liquids come in different strengths.
